I'm another one to whom anime was really important. (still is but less so now)

A long, long, time ago in Britain when our Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was destroying the country, I left university with no job, no money, no friends, no prospects, and just basically sat at home depressed. This was the same time that Anime started coming to the country with releases like Akira, Fist Of The North Star, Vampire Hunter D etc.

Discovering anime really cheered me up, excited me, gave me something to look forward to. And I guess it may sound sad, but although times are better now, I still have a great fondness for anime, I watch it and enjoy it for what it is, but also remember how it cheered me up when I needed it the most.
