I didn't stick with Chinese for too long, which is a shame, but when I bought my electronic dictionary in Japan, it also had chinese><japanese function on it, and it pronounces the Chinese. I've always loved how since Chinese doesn't have the kana that Japanese does, everything is spelled out in characters. My name is Heath, and in Chinese I think it was something like Xisi. And one of my favorite words is still "Ke kou ke le" Coca cola...and umm...I believe beer was "Pijiu" at least how the pinyin in my dic had it, but the "u" at the end is more of an "o" sound.

And about the Chinese/Japanese connection talk earlier in the thread, of course there is a relation. Japanese kanji comes from Chinese, and some of the pronunciations do too. But Chinese also uses some Japanese too (just not on as large a scale) My teacher said that the Chinese word for phone (dianhua) came from the Japanese pronunciation (denwa).

Anyways, interesting topic here!
