I learned through absorption. If you know a word's pronunciation in English, and you start seeing the same character coming up with the same syllable (for instance ス is in super (スーパー).. maybe it'll just come to you.

After I got the recognition down, I just tried to write them all and got it down within 5 times of writing all the kana down.

Maybe the same will work for you. However, if you're under a time constraint, definitely go with repitition. It works.
