Whether it was influenced or not by Hamlet, the Anime has the same premise as that of the Lion King. Kimba the White Lion is a series not a movie so of course The Lion King will have a more compact story for itself and seem different.
However my point is that whether Hamlet influenced it or not, what isn't? More to the point, Tezuka was probably more influenced by Hamlet than the creators of The Lion King, who in turn were influenced by Tezuka.
Most dramas/music/art these days is influenced by one piece of work or another in the past. In fact its hard to make music these days that doesn't have the same beats as something else and the same goes for (mostly?) anything to do with creativity.
So yea Shakespeare was important since he created a backdrop and a standard for people to base their creativity against.
Also as I said earlier, it promoted the English language a lot as well.
