Soldiers knew long before the Iraq War broke out that they might be sent to war sometime in the future.

Military men nowadays are not like they used to be. I’m sorry to say -.- Those who are currently fighting in Iraq are nothing like the ones who fought back in WWII. Now it’s all different motives… it doesn’t mean they deserve no admiration whatsoever (killing isn't something anyone can do ^^) and shouldn’t be given whatever recognition they want to get from whomever, but if they were to stand up for the rights of their people (which is what they are meant to fight for, right?), they wouldn't care what situations they get put into, they would go to war no matter what because they supposably believe in what they are doing and think there is a justified reason for it.

Ps. And in case you were wondering, I'm the biiiiggest war-movies geek out there, and I take much pride in it xD

Hahahahahahaha are you kidding?, anyone can kill its just a matter of training so are you saying people in world war II were better than people in Veitnam? or in the war now?.
Everyone thinks this war is joke and that the WMDs (weapon of Mass Destruction) aren't real when in fact we know it is there, you know why. Cause the U.S. sold it to Iraq, that is our proof. Something given to another country to protect themselves was turned on us and we were threatend by them and so we have to take action. You can't turn a blind eye to these things Suki, you need to stop watching movies and look around at the world it may be depressing but its life. I see where you are coming from though, its not really flattering when your son or daughter comes up to you and says "Dad/Mom I'm going to joing the military and kill people for you and our country" XDDDDDDD.
