For one the size of human testicles compared to other primates is one clue. The bigger the testicles in relation to the size of the body overall, the more promiscous the species is. Bonobos (I think it was them... it's been a while since I last checked) are naturally promiscous. As a result they have evolved big testicles so that they can produce more sperm and ensure that the chances of successfully impregnating a female are high as well as flushing out another males sperm (The concept is known as sperm competition). Silverback gorrillas on the other hand live in small groups and as a result are monogomous. Their testicles haven't needed to evolve into anything as big as the bonobo as they have enough sperm to impregnate the one partner they are likely to have. Human testicles are not big enough for a purely promiscous lifestyle. However they are proportionally significantly bigger than the silverbacks which suggests that naturally humans are somewhat
monogomous however need to "compete" for a mate.
