1) Exchange your money in America first. With only nine days, why would you want to waste your time trying to exchange money in Japan?
2) If the rail pass is 300 dollars, it will be worth it because it will be about that much for round trip shinkansen tickets from Tokyo to Osaka and back.
3) A day trip to Nara should be made from Osaka, not Tokyo.
4) Check the weather before you go. It might be rainy.
