I'm also new to JF.
I live in Tokyo now, but I used to live in Hakodate (Southern part of Hokkaido).
Actually summer in Japan is so humid and hot that most of the American or Canadian can bear.
But Hokkaido is a different climate. So you're lucky to have a first visit to Japan in summer in cool area.
