Humanity is an extension of yourself. If you have faith in yourself, then, by extension you have faith in humanity. If you don't, then obviously the opposite is true.

The measure of humanity, it's good and bad points, is made up partly of our own actions. If you are selfish, careless, or simply bad, then humanity at large is worse off. If you generous, honest, and do what you can to help, then you make the world a measurably better place. Good begets good, as bad begets bad.

As Bacon said: "It is heaven upon earth when men's minds move in charity, rest in providence, and rotate upon the poles of truth". Those who's minds are selfish, faithless, and dishonest make the world a living hell.
