The 'sakura' trees that are famous for the blossom though don't actually fruit properly. They're ornamental trees.

In england there are cherry trees here and there, but not too common a sight as they're hard to keep and get diseased easily so they don't plant them on common land much. Most seem to be european types as well. Oddly people seem dead keen on importing japanese maples, but not the cherry.
