Usually opening night there's a band from Japan.
There's voice actors/directors of anime.
You can go to the bands signing and their signing.
Theres a dealer room where you can by just about any Japanese food or anime.
They also sometimes have corset, cosplay and kimono dealers in there.
They have an art room, to see peoples local art and I think you can even bid on some.
They have art dealers room where people sell their art.
Theres rooms that just play anime the whole time.
Or panels to get cosplay tips or just about any tips about the anime industry.
Also panels about Japan in general.
Theres usually a free arcade or 2
There's the cosplay competitions where you can dance sing or just show off your outfit.
And theres usually several raves.

I would check the site for the con. It'll give you the whole schedule and guest list.

Edit : Watch out for drunk guys and fan girls/boys. And regardless of the craziness that goes on there. They can still kick you out and you can still be sent to jail so don't flip out to much.

Squee! Oh please come. I'm going to MTAC. This will be my second year for it! MTAC rocks! It's alot better than some of the bigger cons. Their panels and events are more creative and fun. Here are just some of the things from last year's MTAC:
Cosplay contest

Ramen eating contest

Peelander - Z concert

All night Rave

Artist Alley where you can purchase fan art.

Dealer's room where snacks, drinks, anime, manga, and about anything else is sold.

Game Room

Oragami

Adult Oragami - you really won't believe what you can make out of paper. LOL

Character Creation panel

Bleach panel

Host Club

Japanese Ghost Stories

Asian Horror flicks

Para Para panel

DDR

AMV awards

New anime showing

Voice actor panel

Martial Arts demonstration

Lolita panel

Cosplay make up

J-Rock PJ party

The list goes on and on. If you like, I could send you a copy of last year's program. For this year check MTAC Infinity: Roarin' Back April 25th - 27th, 2008
It's gonna be a blast. I'd love to see you there. I have a group of 17 going.

You do need to watch out for yourself at any con you go to, but MTAC people seem to be pretty laid back. The only problem I had last year was finding myself down wind of an unbathed con goer. Ick. Bring germ X or the anti-bac gel of choice and air freshener. You will need it. *shudder* The good news is there weren't many stinkers last year, so hopefully there won't be many this year. Do be on good behavior. Security is pretty tight.

I don't really live that far away. I do love MTAC, though. I'd probably go even if it were a few states away. We're staying all 3 days, maybe four.

Well i have been to two anime conventions. I have been to MomoCon and to AWA, but they are different stuff at each convention but they usually have dealer rooms.
At AWA there where three japanese bands, The captains, Peelander Z and The emeralds.

From the sky, To the ground
Rain is falling all around
Thunder rain and wind
A song of storms begins

Play a song, A melody
Then everybody will see
The hero of time
Has come
