Kodansha moving to America
This news came out today:
Japan’s highly respected Nikkei financial news service is reporting that Kodansha has set up a U.S. subsidiary “to publish and sell translations of its Japanese manga” in the U.S. starting in September. The reason for the move according to Nikkei, is “to boost its earnings in America, where its income has been limited to royalties received from U.S. firms. ICv2 - Kodansha Heading Stateside Del Rey publishes a lot of Kodansha stuff, so this could have some big implications. |
I wonder if it will turn into an anime at some point.

I wonder, what will happen to the mangas already published or being publish by other american companies, will they re-publish them? And will they bring there magazines to the USA? Like Afternoon and Gekkan Shonen Magazine.

I don't know about magazines...but I kinda doubt it....but who knows? |
I see it as a good thing. It will be easier for Kodansha to publish thier manga directly as opposed to going through an American company. This will probably mean more translations and less waiting for American fans.
