Osamu Tezuka - 11-07-2008, 09:39 AM

This thread is dedicated to Osamu Tezuka - who was (and still is) a really famous mangaka. A lot of his comics were turned into movies and TV shows, including Astro Boy, the White Lion, Black Jack, and Adolf.

Also, has anyone else seen Metropolis? This is the strangest movie by Osamu Tezuka in my opinion. It's confusing, out there and even a bit disturbing, I guess. But its deep and sad, and I really liked it

I love a lot of his works, especially the White Lion and Black Jack. Is any else here a fan? (I hope so lol) If so what are your favourites?

An old Tezuka fan here. Thanks for creating this thread, Emi-chan. I've been wondering why JF members don't seem to read older manga much.

I love all of his works but if I had to choose one, it would be Adolf. It may be the best manga I've ever read.

I actually just finished reading Apollo's Song. It has that old-school sci-fi feel to it, but it explores some really deep topics. I really liked it. It actually reminded me a bit of Ray Bradbury for some reason. It's the only work of Tezuka's that I've read/watched so far, but I definitely want to check out more. Excellent stuff. I have however heard of Black Jack but haven't gotten my hands on it yet. Being a premed student myself, I think it's really cool that Tezuka was originally a doctor.

I am reading Black Jack now, but love Astro Boy, MW, Ode to Kirihito, Apollo's Song and Dororo. All rock very hard.

Phoenix is probably my favourite manga, though it's never really worked well as an anime, (but hey, how can you tell a 3000+ page story in 13 episodes?) I also didn't like the Black Jack TV series much, Pinoko was annoying (as most children in anime are), but perhaps it's not so bad in the manga?

I saw Metropolis when it was shown in our local cinema. I don't really like it when CGI is used so obviously in anime, but that doesn't stop it from being a good film. I tend to like films like this and Ghost in the Shell which blur the distinctions between robots and humans.

I rented Metropolis from my library not knowing what it was. I was pretty good but the music choice with the falling tower may have been a bit odd.

Yeah it was a bit like GITS, which is a good thing

And I agree about the music... It kind of confused me
I might have cried if it was sadder music, haha
