Talk about one piece here!

One piece is to some "the new dragonball z" but it does have an almost completely different storyline. Luffy often gets his crew into problems because of his gullable/dim-wittedness but he is a fantastic fighter who believes in doing the honourable thing. Also, Oda made luffy's character so that whatever situation the pirates were in, the viewer/reader would never get depressed.

Despite what people have been saying about there being no character development or seriousness, there is a lot of it but the char dev is only noticeable after watching many eps and the seriousness comes more when you progress through the story.
