there is also a vampire anime (can't think of the title) that is REALLY VIOLENT.

id say that Berserk (atleast the manga) is one of the most dark and brutal creations ever ^^

I haven't seen all of the series, but Hokuto no Ken was definitely one of the most violent anime's I've ever seen, but its OAV took that violence to a whole new level (especially with Heart's death by Kenshiro's soft strike technique)......I love Fist of the North Star!

Another is the first Vampire Hunter D movie.

Violence in the usual anime is not so uncommon.
And who wants a lot of violence and blood, see guro (or eroguro), not for nothing that such a genre exists.
