how do I be prepared for an anime convention? - 09-19-2007, 02:41 PM

hello I'm going to be going to an anime convention and I was wondering what I should do to prepare and what goes on at them because this will be my first.

I don't think I will be able to cosplay for it because money issues so that brings me to another question will I stick out like a sore thumb if I don't cosplay?

any help on this would be appreciated thank you

and I typed in search for a thread on this and didn't find one just so you know I searched.

If you're not wearing a costume, don't worry, there are a lot of people that don't.

What to expect is a little different everywhere.

Anime Expo is the biggest in North America (been going there for the past 3 years) and they have concerts, an American Idol ripoff performance, AMV contest, anime episodes showing in different rooms, dealer's hall (exhibit hall - where you buy stuff), Artist gallery, etc...

So it really depends. Any con you go to should have a website with info about what they're doing. If it's a rather popular one (like Anime Expo) be prepared for lines and depending on where it is, make sure you dress for the weather (my boyfriend got a nasty sunburn standing in line).

I would also suggest going with a friend or two, makes the experience more fun.

Which con are you going to?

ok, there's plenty of people that don't dress up...but the majority of them do dress up.

you will want pictures of the ones that do. some of them are incredibly well done.

if you've never seen cosplay before, you will be amazed.
...or you'll laugh, in which case you'll still want pictures.

thnx boboloko for the sig!
