Wow... What an opinionated thread. I suppose I'll chime in.

I have no particular respect (or disrespect) for Islam the religion, but loads of respect for the cultures it has influenced.

People have to remember that at one time, the Islamic world was the most advanced and civilised set of kingdoms.

From what I understand, in my opinion, the insular nature of the Islamic world today can be attributed to political and economic factors both now and throughout the last few centuries (colonialism for example).
