"Speak" = To talk.
"Slowly" = Not fast or quickly.
"Choose" = Select or pick something.
"Facial" = A movement or expression of the face.
"Expression" = A well known statement or face or body gesture.

Common usage.

Native English speakers often speak slowly.

They use as few words as possible to make their point. They choose words carefully.
Often the words they say have "hidden" meaning.

The hidden meanings are well known to them.
Facial and body expression add meaning to the hidden meaning of the few words spoken.

Many times what they say has an opposite meaning. An example is, "You are so bright!", usually a sarcastic expression meaning... "That was obvious, anyone would know that!"

Seeing facial expression is sometimes the only way to know the meaning of what was meant by what was said.

A raised eyebrow, pursed lips, wide eyes, rolled eyes... these facial expressions and others are as much a part of the English language as words are. They provide context (meaning) to the few words that are spoken.

Knowing the common expressions helps a lot to understand what was meant by the words. Often the words by themselves do not tell the story.

Seeing and hearing the English speaker is a better way to learn the English language than just reading the words or speaking with people who do not know the common phrases, their uses or their hidden meaning.

Do you speak Japanese?

I am afraid that I do not and more is the pity.

My main concern has been... that the translator has been making nonsense of information or worse... coming across with the wrong intent.

I have asked if someone bilingual could check and verify that the translations are useful or at least not negative, perhaps they are marginally useful, perhaps not.

Guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You can replace your concern with certainty. In my own experience, current online translators between Japanese and English are simply not reliable, period.

If you're translating from a language you don't know into one you know, which is my situation going from Japanese to English, you might be able to massage the result into something correct, with the help of other aids such as a Japanese-English dictionary like WWWJDIC, provided that you know enough context to puzzle out a reasonable result. Otherwise, you may only get some gist of what is meant. The more complex the sentence, the more likely the translation is to fail.

Going the other way, you're totally shooting in the dark. Your chances of producing something coherent are pretty low, and for the long, complex sentences you've been using, they're practically nonexistent.

Personally, I'm quite disappointed with the poor quality of Google's Japanese-to-English translation. I realize it's a hard problem, but it seems to me that they could do a much better job than they do currently if they focused some engineering effort on the problem. Right now they often simply fail to translate words that are easy to find on WWWJDIC.

Thank you Collin, I appreciate the insights. It is what I was afraid of... that the translations are of little or no value. I will seek another way to reach out.
