In Turkish we say "Merhaba" :)

You can find some similiar words, after all we share history...

I'm not sure where you're from, so it may be a dialect difference, but "I like to meet new people" would (to me) come off as more right if it was said like this: "Wahibu atlaga (al)nas jadid"... the word "new" might be wrong, my arabic it kind of shoddy.

1. Wahid
2. Ethnayn
3. Thalatha
4. Arba'a
5. Khamsa
6. Sitta
7. Saba'a
8. Thamanya
9. Tes'a
10. 'Ashara

I think that covers it. Again, it might be a dialect thing.

its the dialect. as for like meeting new people, you can also say: ahib alagi nas jedad!

There is Common Arabic, to speak of... what's it called now... el 'araby fasl(i) or something like that. The numbers I put in Common Arabic and the sentence I tried to make into Common as much as I could, considering I don't speak it.

As for the case with the numbers, it's a safer bet to learn the arabic that's considered "official", rather than dialects (for instance, we use 'g' in some of our words, such as in coffee, jump, and rise (as in 'stand up').

If I were to say that "I'd like to meet new people" in my own dialect, I'd say, "Ahib ashof nas jedida".

Isn't this egyptian dialect?

terra104 07-22-2007 02:37 PM

i dont think its egyption, cause the egyption dialect would be closer to this: bahib ataraf 'ala nas godod!"

i think: "Ahib ashof nas jedida" is more of a gulfian dialect!

anyways for more words:

white: abiad
black: aswad
pink: wardi
blue: azrag
green: akhdar
red: ahmar

lightining: barq
thunder: ra'ad
rain: mattar
sun: shams
moon: qamar
stars: najoom
