I am not sure but it may be a little off topic... Do you know how living looks there? How do prices of hotels and transport look? I just love this city and I am angry because it is included to China... I would be glad if it was a separate(?) country

Kai, you know my chinese name has the same character of Kai in it as you have there, haha, just thought i'd mention that.
anyway Kai you don't need to get so upset, i'm assuming you might be a mainlander or atleast have come from there and immigrated elsewhere. It is well known that many Hong Kong chinese are not particularly happy to become part of China. I can understand their views very well but this is a political thing, not about hating one country or another. It is about the country of Hong Kong going from one political system into another. Now lets get some things straight Maciooj, yes hong kong has been handed over to china but it has always been chinese land, it was simply leased to England who obtained the land in ways i don't agree with. As part of the hand over, hong kong is to remain a SAR (Special Administrative Region) for at least 50 years after the hand over. By the time hong kong becomes a regular province of China and not an SAR i have no doubt that the political and economic atmosphere in China will have greatly changed. That is still another 40 years away! look at the changes to china in the last 20 years! hong kong will be well placed in the future as it is able to govern itself for the most part for the next 40 years, keeping its own little economy going, and it will become part of china at a time when i suspect it will be the worlds biggest economy. So while it may look bad for Hong Kong to be part of China now, the end result should be a good one for the people. onto your question about hong kong itself, it is a wonderful city. I would say, hands down, the best city i have been to. you will never see so many tall buildings in your life. the majority of people live in tall apartment buildings and their homes are not very big. but there are some nice beaches there, some lovely temples, great shopping and food. transport uses the octopus card, it is 1 card that you recharge and can be used for trains and busses but not the old trams, but those are so cheap who cares. you can also use it to pay for things at convenience stores and some other places. it is very east to get around in hong kong, the transport is great. as for hotels, i have no idea. i lived with people i knew when i was staying there so i really have no idea what hotels are like. sorry. |

Hong Kong is one of the best places to visit! =) It's a little humid and hot, so I would suggest not going in Summer if you are sensitive to the weather. It is a beautiful city (prettiest skyline in the world, imo) with lots of skyscrapers, people, and a very unique culture of its own. Cantonese is the main language used, but most shop-owners and people can understand English and Mandarin. Transportation is very cheap! Even taxis are very good priced, but I suggest taking the double-deck buses or the MTR (subway system). You can easily go back and forth between Hong Kong side and Kowloon side for more shopping(!!!) and site-seeing. Like anrakushi said, you can buy an Octopus Card so you don't have to pay in cash/coins for MTR and bus. You can buy them at any MTR station and add more money to the card at Circle K, 7-Eleven, etc.. And the old trams are only $2 HK dollars each per adult! I have never stayed in a hotel in Hong Kong either, but they have all the high-class hotels like Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental etc... that will be very expensive but have a perfect location and beautiful building. If you are looking for something cheaper, just make sure you pick a well-established place with good review so you don't end up in a bad place! Hope you enjoy Hong Kong! It's my favourite place to go back to in the world. The shopping is ENDLESS~ and the environment is great! |

Hey! not all Hongkongers think China is badd. China is LAVVFERLY place. I've been there.
Honestly, if you want to go Hk, i would totally lay off on the anti china comments. they'll get you nowhere. HK is a metropolitan city, it's alright, pollution is pretty bad but the food is ACE. Why do you love Hk if you've never been there? Thats a little hard to judge. Yeah, it has amazing culture and everything, but don't be ignorant that there is gona be a shiny rainbow world there. It Isn't but it does have alot of good points as well as bad. ![]() I OFFICIALLY own the following bad boys Shinji(SID), Yuuki(Ancafe), Inzargi(MEGAMASSO), JaeJoong and YunHo (DBSK), Mayo(Panic☆ch), EunHyuk & Lee Teuk(Super Junior) and Kai(The Gazette),Saro (Kavki Boiz) I half own/care for Teruki(Ancafe), You touch, You DIE. |
