samurai sword - 02-19-2008, 08:27 PM

hi

I visit Japan for the first time and I'd like to buy in Japan a cheap samurai sword for about 100 USD.
is it not a problem and is it allowed to bring it by plain to Europe/Switzerland ?

greetings
ccc

You might consider shipping it to your home from Japan, rather than taking it on the plane. Less hassle that way.

You can usually trust the Japanese shop to do it, if they offer that service. If not, seal and mail the box it comes in to yourself at any post office.

Really? My brother bought a Katana for my parents and he had no problem with customs or anything. He showed it to them, then put it in the suitcase and there wasn't a single problem! (maybe he was lucky)

I've never said never in my whole life and i'm sure you can NEVER prove it

perhaps for customs in japan wasn't problem,
but could be a problem by customs in europe because of weapons laws.
