What exactly does it say? Does it say it creates a copy?

I know a little about Photoshop. What is the name of the painting software you are using? I've used Corel , and it works fine in TIF format. You can also use Photoshop to get some awesome effects. Try using the smudge tool (the hand with finger pointing to the paper). You can really get some great results with it, I've used it on photos of people and flowers, and they look like paintings afterwards. If I can find the tutorial, I'll post the link.
Thanks!

Hmm I have Photoshop CS2 and don't really know what 5 is like but is there a sRGB option that you need to click? This is a type of colour profile.

In CS2 I get that option when i'm saving the file. It knows what colour profile to use when it turns the image into something else.
Here is a picture so you can see if it is clicked when you try and save.
