She's a woman going through a sex change. Her "partner", who is a woman, wanted to have a baby, but wasn't able to, so the "man" or rather woman who is becoming a man, carried the baby and had it before finishing up with the full on sex change. I'm pretty sure that's what the situation was. So, when you get right down to it, a real man did not have the baby, just a woman aspiring to eventually become one.
