I'm with you, Housetek. Fashion is an industry, and we all are a part of it. Labels get famous and reach a certain market for a reason, and it isn't because they put out low-quality clothing.

And don't think that the clothes you were stop reflecting on you after high school. You will be judged by what you wear pretty much your entire life. Sometimes that's important (like job interviews) and sometimes it is not, but we develop a first impression of a person based largely on the clothes they wear. Fair or not, that's human psychology.

I do what a lot of people I know do. I don't spend that much time a year shopping for clothes but I like to mix a few very nice items with basic functionals to stretch a budget. I also think about how many years I can wear something.

If you take good care of your clothes, they can literally last a lifetime. One of my favorite pair of jeans (Carhartt) I bought in 1991 or 1992, and at the time I thought spending 40 dollars on a pair of jeans was too much, but they are still going strong, 17 years later. Cheap Old Navy jeans tend to fall apart after a few washings, so I don't buy those anymore.

Like anything else, you get what you pay for.

(And it worries me how many people but all their clothes from Wal-Mart. You have any idea what happens to get clothes on their shelves. Ever thought about WHY it is so cheap?)

ooh and nee >.<''
think you could teach this one a thing or two about clothes making/designing?? =OO
Well i get my fabrics from New York and some areas in Philladelphia.

Online stores will bulk sale "high quality fabric" but its usually crap.

I tend to stay away some shotty chinese fabric stores, ( not to be racist or any thing) but most of the time they are all bootleg fabrics.

Theres fabric row in New York, for new designers to buy tons of nice fabrics to test out Prototype shirts.

As for making and design you can pm me if you really want to get into it.

Basicaly, you want to start off with your sketch.

Sketch then gets a color story
* or a certain line will get a color story*

a color story is basically a collage of what the Certain Piece is trying to express.

things like colors and scenery can be thrown in, this helps in marketing and also in the development of the clothes.

this is usually done within a entire line not just one piece, or a season line.

After multiple drafts of the sketch, its sent to the management of the design team to get a okay for prototyping.

Prototype is basically making a rough draft of the actual shirt

This process can be really expensive up to 300 dollars for just one Shirt made up.

it gets fixed up and any kinks are worked out, and is tested in multiple sizes and what not.

Marketing really depends on what kind of clothing you get into.

also the process is different depending on what type of clothing you are getting into.

My job is basicallly to throw fashion shows, and events and to market my company as a high end custom fashion company.

We have few clients but they buy custom lines for them selves, so its very profitable.

Hope to get big and launch my own line of Alternative style Tokyo inspired clothing.

but thats not for another few years =P

I just got some clothes in the post.

Bench Jeans.

Firetrap Hoodie.

Helly Hansen Fleece.

&

Everlast Socks.

I got these pretty cheap off the inet and cos they look good but there's really not much you can do to avoid labels, unless you shop at Primark lol.
I mean, even supermarkets have brand names that they push onto the public.

Actually, I do. Furthermore, I've resolved to be the joykill on the forums. Someone needs to play the adult.

I don't care if he used the word Homo. Like someone said, it is what you are and if you ARE what you are, shouldn't be a problem.
Comparing the word "Nig***" to this is ultimate retardedness. It's a word MADE and USED as a racial slur with hundreds of years of stigma attached to it. Not saying you compared it, just throwing it out there since someone else said it.
So lets keep to the topic, k thx.

I'm not a big fan of brand names. Yes, they got to a status because of quality (debatable), marketing etc etc, but to be honest with you, I would rather buy a pair of jeans for £7 with no brand instead of paying £40+ for a nice Levis or something. There are several reasons for this. They seem to actually last longer than the name brands and fashion seems to change too often for me to be able to keep up with the expensive brands.

But this is just me. I'm not a fan of spending more for the sake of fashion and names. The only brand names items I buy seem to be trainers/shoes, simply because that's all I can find! Even then, I buy the lower range of their goods!

I've never said never in my whole life and i'm sure you can NEVER prove it
