It's a good question....

I agree with the theory that it seems like there are more Yaoi fans because Yaoi fans are typically more outspoken about it and are girls... who are strangely not victims of the same stigma that guys are when it comes to wanting to see a pair of the opposite sex in *ahem* contact with each other.

That's the real question, to my mind: why are girls not thought strange for liking Yaoi, but guys have to be careful who they tell that they like Yuri?

To be honest, I'm pretty sure most girls just like the guys kissing and cuddling, which I wouldn't call yaoi, that's more shounen-ai. Yaoi would be....Well, you know...;;;>_>

I think it has alot to do with what is available. Yaoi, which yes is my favorite, has pretty much flooded the U.S. market. Almost everywhere you look, you can find yaoi or shonen-ai. Yuri, on the other hand is less available. My friend Heather was just talking to me about how she can't find more than one or two Yuri manga and anime. She's pretty upset about it, too. I don't care for the Yuri myself. People tend to get more into what they can get their hands on. I also believe that yaoi fans are more vocal about it. I don't really know but that's my guess. Personally I just like looking at the pretty bishies and it's romantic.
