i believe it to be sort of an upper class thing !! and that the very reason he is so talked about is because the education systems in those countries perpetuates the myth that he was this great historical figure but in actual fact this is not the case.

ill give u an example - in british history there was a guy called sir Frances Drake who is written about with much admiration and taught to schoolkids as a hero for fihghting off the spanish armada ! - then when u leave school and and educate urself u also learn that in actual fact he was also a slave trader !!! therfore i believe the answer to why shakespeare is revered in so many contries is because the education systems teach it in a sort of tyrannical way !! and anyone who questions it is seen to be a nut !

in other words what he did has been embelished to what he actually achieved !

in reality the guy (we think) wrote a few plays

cue a lot off upper class snobs mixed with an empire and snobbery - and this was then adjusted to 2he was the birth of the english language as we know it" - it all bs !

it is the same as a celebrity being created by the media !! all hype

Shakespeare was the one who laid depths when it came to characters, overall plot, his use of English (GOOD English). His work influenced others heavily, and still influences a lot of modern-day storywriters.

You don't know a thing bout Shakespeare, yet you can say he's hyped, not what he's cut out to be, etc.?

well it is just my opinion and more or less every1 i know - i have never in my life met any person to whom shakespeare is or was relevant

the south asian continent are just as succesful storywriters as anywhere else and they dont know anything about shakespeare !

let me ask u a question - just supposing i did go back and murder shakespeare before he was born - how would things have changed ?? would we be in any different position as to where we are now ? would we not have nuclear power stations or weapons would we not have electricity or gas - ask yourself honestly what was his contribution and does it measure against his reverance ?

Um, the Lion King is actually based off an Manga/Anime created by Osama Tezuka called Kimba the White Lion.
Sure Shakespeare was important for the English language but PumPum is right.
He isn't that important in everyday life.
I wouldn't kill him though

The English language probably wouldn't be as popular?

I don't think he/she was referring to the chars... The only similarity between Lion king and Jungle emporer is the chars and a couple of scenes (like the lion showing in the clouds etc)... I believe the comparison was about the story. And I have to agree, you can kind of tell that it's greatly influenced by Hamlet.

But yeah, Pumpum, just because you didn't like your english Lit class, it doesn't mean that shakespeare needs to be killed. lol. I believe everyone is important in the past. Even if you believe that they don't directly affect you, they are still important.

I suggest you just move on, because most people think they wasted their time in most classes in school, and they are probably right, but general knowledge never hurt anyone!

I've never said never in my whole life and i'm sure you can NEVER prove it

Hmmm...
I would want to go back to see what really happened to the Challenger.
I would want to go back to meet my birth parents.
