Smoking

I searched for this, and it didn't seem to be a thread [except for in drug-related threads, or where to purchase them in Japan and such.]

What do you think of smoking? I mean just tobacco, normal cigarettes you can buy at most shops. Here in the UK the age to buy cigarettes used to be 16, but now it's gone up to 18 thankfully! Of course, it doesn't stop kids getting hold of cigarettes, but what it does stop is people hassling me in a morning to buy them cigarettes, because I'm not old enough anymore. I wouldn't have bought them anyway, as I personally despise cigarettes, but they threaten you and stuff which isn't all that great first thing in a morning.

So, do you smoke? How and why did you start? What age is it to smoke in your country, and do you think this is a good idea?

i dont remember if there was an age change but i think you can smoke if you're 16 or older. since this year (or last year) you can only buy tham at the automat if you have a credit card .. so you have no choice but go to a person who's at least 16 if you're younger ^^

i didnt smoke a singe cigarett till now ..

the smoke itself doesnt bug me and so i dont care if a person smokes ..
i think everyone is well aware of what smoking does to you .. and if they want to smoke and accept consequences there's no problem right ?
and even if they don't think about that..
if a person wants to smoke they can if they want ..

tho it's probably good that theres so much propaganda .. like "Smoking = death"
it holds it up a bit .. doesnt count for the individual .. but probably that keeps the worldwide number lower and that is good^^

ive smoked when i was 13 for about 4 months i think.
did it to be part of the "gang" but i suddenly decided it was stupid to do it.
so i stopped and the majority of the "gang" wanted me out so i was fine with it.
my best friends also left and after a week the whole "gang" fell apart.

its just stupid to do it.

but ill admit i do sometimes smoke weed(once in 2 months)

legal age is 18 here for tabacco&weed.

and its not realy stopping anyone from getting it.

Yeah, I agree your pretty much right. It just makes me sooo sad when I see people smoking. I've seen people die in pain with lung cancer, caused by smoking. Of course it's their choice, but when you see 2 people you love die with it in the space of a week it's enough to put you off for life. I also find it quite selfish too, it's inconsiderate to others around you if your blowing your smoke around at everyone, and if you become ill, yeah it's your fault but your families suffer too. I mean fair enough, go ahead smoke if you want to, it's not a dictatorship, but ugh, I really hate it >.<

Wow is that so? Well I bet you were glad to get away from such people!

Yeah ages and stuff never do. I could get alcohol, cigs and drugs if I wanted them. It's more important to educate people so they can make up their own minds.

umm .. that family thing ..
i think thats all part of the consequences ..
the negative facts and the positive ..
and for everyone the facts are more or less important
and about blowing smoke on other peoples faces .. it's not really a matter of smoking ..
most people who're ok and you're having your time with wouldnt do that
(well actually those people are also having friends.. i just cant seem to think about what they do .. blowing each other smoke into the face ? sounds strange ...)

Well, when I'm walking to school on a morning [like right on the schools street], lots of the kids smoke [and they're not supposed to at all, because 1. They are underage and 2. They are on the way to school. 3. 6th formers who can smoke aren't even allowed to do it in school grounds.] And it goes right in my face when I'm behind them, it stinks, and it reallllly makes me feel sick. I just find it really unattractive. Some people like the smell of cigarette smoke though, I just think it's foul. If I was a smoker I'd definatly do it somewhere where it's not going to piss off everyone else, because it would be my dirty habit and not anyone elses. >.<

Secondary smoke really gives me a bad throat. I hate anyone to smoke in a close vicinity to me.
Asides from that, Smoking is the biggest killer in the UK. Don't know about elsewhere.

well ..
those aspects ..
the schools in germany can't take that much control over your behaviour ^^
outside the school.. the school got nothing to say ..

so how about next time .. you turn around and say them that they should go immediately away or stop smoking around you ?
if thats not helping just call the police ?
or can actually your teachers do something if you tell them ?
you gotta do something about it huh ^^?
and i think after you said it a few times and they didnt listen i think its ok if they're blamed ..

i think smoking is disgusting.

i accept that people can smoke if they want to, but... why?

it stinks, is addictive, gives you cancer, turns your teeth yellow and stains them, is hella expensive, is outlawed in most public places in my city, tastes awful (according to my friend), and makes you throw up (also according to my friend).

also, something to think about:
nicotine is one of (if not the) most toxic substances known. if you injected the nicotine from one pack of cigarettes into someone, they would die instantly.
