Question criminal Law Japan - 05-24-2008, 04:30 PM

Hello,
I was wondering if you could help me;

I'm from Holland and I would like to do my graduation internship in Japan and I've found an internship at a Japanese company in Tokyo.

However, their only concern is the responsibility matter. In case of violating a criminal law, who would be responsible; the company or the offender?

My university does have an insurance for injuries etc. for their trainees abroad.

Maybe you can help me, clarifying this matter?

Thank you in advance for the taken effort.

Best regards,

Lennart de Vries

What do you mean by "responsible"? If you commit a crime, you are responsible, and chances are you would lose your visa status and be sent home before a trial takes place (unless it something very serious like rape or murder). The company sponsoring you always takes a certain amout of responsibility, but don't expect them to come to your defense. All this should be in the contract you sign with them in detail.
