Does your town throw a Japanese Culture Matsuri? - 02-22-2009, 04:55 PM

OK I live in AZ and we have one every yr to celebrate mostly traditional/some modern culture of Japan. I was wondering if any one else had this type of event to look forward too? I have a blast going every yr cuz I love the Kendo demonstrations and the dances and of course the tons of stuff merchants have to sell me >.<

so, anybody have this type of Matsuri in your town?

yea same here in my town...

From the sky, To the ground
Rain is falling all around
Thunder rain and wind
A song of storms begins

Play a song, A melody
Then everybody will see
The hero of time
Has come

In my town we have Obon, within the Japanese Buddhist church. And boy, it's HUGE for such a small area.

And in the next town over they hold a cherry blossom festival in april. :]

it's fun!

Well that sounds pretty awesome. I wish I could go to a cherry blossom festival. That sounds so pretty. We dont have them in az I enjoy the matsuri tho. I still need to try the tea ceremony they do at this one garden in the south part of my town.

Its sucks that some of you guys dont get to have festivals.. Hmm maybe it may be a matter of population.. AZ has a rather large Japanese/Asian population..We even have a Chinese Culture Center that has a marketplace to buy imported goods

I live near Anchorage, Alaska and we have a really large Asian population... Including a great deal of Japanese tourists, as well as residents.

We have Japanese markets and the Japanese culture is really popular around here-- and since the college is so closely tied with it's Japanese program, there are occasional taiko drum shows and other sorts of demonstrations... You don't have to go far to see some Hiragana sign leading you to something interestingly Japanese.

yep. our japanese marketplace "Mitsuwa" has a Natsu Matsuri every summer & a Buddhist temple downtown has a festival during the summer aswell.

i like to watch their demonstrations. :3

But to despair was to wish back for something already lost.
Or to prolong what was already unbearable.

New York does like a Japanese festival yearly in central park.

Then there are the other festivals in new jersey that are advertised on the morning japanese news.
