Angry The word I am beginning to hate.... - 07-24-2008, 11:45 AM

I do not know if there is a forum of this or not, but I just have to mention the following.

I do not really understand who came up with his word, but the more I look up the meaning of this word, the angrier I get. The word is Wapanese. I first saw that word on Wikipedia, then there is this site that says a lot of meanings of that word here. I do not know who came up with this word, but in some cases it is rather insulting. And I feel that some people who just hate Anime calls someone that DOES like/love Anime a Wapanese or a weeaboo because they think they are better because they hate Anime and perhaps saying that it's immature or something.

With me, I love Anime, more than I can put it to words. I love it so much that I want to actually live in Japan to make my own Anime. I also want to learn about everything about Japan that I can. I first want to learn Japanese so much too. The more I watch Anime in the original Japanese (with english subtitles yes.... but I once watched a little bit of an Anime without them), the more I want to learn Japanese. Now I have to ask you: does that make me Wapanese? Is someone going to call me Wapanese or a weeaboo because they see me on Gaia, going on Anime sites, looking at Anime piccies on photobucket or whatever, or because they see me with a manga or an Anime magazine? I mean come on! Who came up with that word anyways? I would like to find out who did. They say that you can take the obsession of Anime into an unhealthy level.... To me I have never seen any of the "symptoms" listed.

Does anyone else have a say in all of this? I am hoping that there is at least one person here that agrees with me.

Its no different from some inconsequential idiot calling you any number of names.
Mostly people will call you names because they are just jealous of what you do and who you are. They want to see you fall and will go to extreme lengths to see you fall. Whats more, when they get into an argument with you, they will start saying things about your character if you try to defend yourself. This is because they have nowhere else to go and so have limited options left at their disposal. There is nowhere to go cept to use bully tactics, which shows how pathetic these people are.
Best things to do are to stick up for yourself, if you at one time thought these people were worth arguing against or just plain outright ignore it and wipe their existence from your memory.
Whether the word be Wapanese, Geek, Retard or anything, the above reasoning is all the same.

Wapanese is just a spin-off of Wigga. Basically it refers to someone who is desperately trying to fit in with a stereotype of a culture. The accent is on that desperation. Losing objectivity. But of course calling anybody that is just an act of frustration or maybe a lack of understanding.

Maybe that is the case with you as well. Perhaps you are losing a bit of your objectivity. Japan is so much more than anime and the language. Japan is culture, history, nature, business, technology. In fact, Japanese consider anime a little bit childish. They are the once to use the term Otaku.

Edit: in any event do not worry about it. If you like anime, you like anime. If you would like 50 cent you would like 50 cent - though I'd had to say your music taste sucks. People can be mean.

The first comment I totally agree with, but the one above me not so much. I said in my post that besides making my own Anime, I want to learn everything that I can about Japan. I am a little familiar with the food that the Japanese eat, but I want to know more about the culture and things.

some of the definitions of wapanese on that site are pretty stupid

Quote:
1. Has an unhealthy obsession with shallow, saccharine and intellectually insulting animation shows (also refered to as anime by the nerd elite) originally tailored for young Japanese children
intellectually insulting?? wtf

Quote:
5. Is a Virgin
what's that got to do with anything?

Ok maybe I worded that a bit harshly, but you are a Japanophile then, just like me and pretty much everyone else on this board haha.

Okay.... that really insulted me. I wonder if I can close this thread somehow. No wait, I can't.

I don't think he meant it in an insulting context. There is also such a thing as being too sensitive.

We're all Japanophiles.

Except maybe the actual Japanese members here. x]

1) It is just that whenever I saw the word Japanophile and its meaning, it seemed like they made it equivilent to the word pedophile. That was why I was insulted.

2) Oh yeah! Because they actually live in Japan. Haha!
