Exclamation Hello. Would Anyone Care to Help Me Out? - 09-29-2008, 07:56 PM

(If this is in the wrong place, please move it)

My name is Nickel (not real name) and I'm a writer. As of now, I have an idea that I want to try out: the basic plot follows the lifes of a young girl from America who moves to Japan to live with her sister who is apart of an uprising J-rock band. Now, I have learned a little about Japanese culture from shojo manga but at the same time, I don't think that is the only thing I can use for refrence. So, in order not to write something completely untrue, I would like to get facts straight from those who are:

1. Japanese
2. Live in Japan
3. Have lived in Japan

This would be a great help to me. You may send me a message, email or just post on this thread. Again, thank you!

Nickle,

I’m sure you’ll get many responses here, some true, some stories, others just out in left field, (way off) so my first impression upon you is going to be one of concern and apprehension. Because as a true writer, a) It is ill advised to use a Wikipedia site to write a PhD thesis, or complete a true work of art using Crayola crayons. B) You would not use a open public discussion forums to ask for your pages of work to be put out here in the open.

I would say you’d find more satisfaction in researching the topic of Japan, Japan culture form the library and reading the book yourself, how can you credit your work once you try to publish it with “* taken form the site www.japan fourm.com ?” Your readers will call you crazy and not find it 100% your work.

Lastly, I think you need to be more specific, is your work going to be for a comic book, a novel, s short story, etc.?

Also, we’d like to know more about you then just some “run in and ask a question” and then leave. You input and guidance is needed so we are on the right track.

Hope that helps,

Also you misspelled “reference.”

Hewa! (Peace!) Good luck !!!

I am also a write and the guy above my post is totally right, if you want to find something out about japan you'll have to research it's main internet sites, as for me I write about stuff that I've heard about and know for a fact about, or just research it.

I think he is just pulling our leg, if he was a real writer he would be reading through the living in Japan section (among other research) and not making his first post about his up comeing book idea.

Either he is an ameature looking to write his first book (inspired by his facination with Japan) or he is just haveing a laugh with this post, to see how many people, are willing to post their life story about how Japan is like etc.

Or he could be just looking for inspiration?

Well, here is the thing. I am going to do research on Japanese culture but the thing is I'd like to talk to people as well. I want to get both sides. Honestly, I know that getting just my info from forums won't work.

And the reason I mispelled refrence is due to my aspergers.

Another thing I could learn from this site is which books would be most helpful. I want to learn a little more about the music industry. I'm not going to go into great detail here on the forum but I will through PM and email.
