To expand ont DagothUr's idea, you could have a map that shows where your members are from. If you have a lot of members in Japan then it might have a bunch of red dots to show the cities they are from. If you are really good at coding you could even make it so when you click on the city it list the members from that area.

You could have a little interactive map, and wherever you click on the map,
you can get news and politics from that area. : D Help my Cause for homeless teens!

You could have an option in the use setup that sets the locations that they are interested in. When they log on information from those areas are displayed for them.
