Arrow Alchemy - 01-24-2007, 02:11 PM

This is the thread for alchemists or studying alchemists...also for people who wanna learn about its origins or anything. I'm becoming quite the expert! [*And I believe Theophrastus Bambastus Hohenheim DID indeed discover a form of eternal or elongated life!*]

Well...I'll have to get my research notebook, but, I'm positive they are alive today. But, they probably only inwards call themselves "alchemists" only because "chemists" is taken more seriously within the scientific arena.

There's tons of them! Here's some books written:
Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim (aka Paracelsus)-"The Four Elements of Paracelsus"
John Maxon Stillman-"Theories of the Ancients on Matter And Its Changes"
Adam McLean-"Rosary of The Philosopher"
John Dalton-"A New System of Chemical Philosophy"
Dmitri Mendeleev-"The Periodic Law of the Chemical Elements"
Among many, many, many others.
Also, there is Zosimus, who wasn't an alchemist, but he wrote 28 volumes in his "Encyclopedia of Alchemia" about everything having to do with Alchemy.

The beginning of Alchemy - 02-01-2007, 04:04 PM

Well, alchemy started as the quest for the answer to the question, "What one thing makes up the universe?"

The four "elements" were thought to be the answer for many years, until it was proven by several achemists, including Archimedes, that earth, air, fire, and water weren't even elements at all. Thus, alchemy thrived on finding newer, more reasonable answers to the question of what makes up the universe.

That's the jist of it, anyway. Minu a thousand details, of course.

If you look hard enough, I guess. I know you can get Dmitri Mendeleev and John Dalton's books at the library. But the others are pretty old, so I dunno...
