Question Japan and Korea, GIVE UP and shake! - 05-06-2009, 01:42 AM

OK.. I think many of us know about the history, apology, text book, school education part but has this feeling affected the younger generation in Japan and Korea towards how they feel about each other or does the feeling still linger?

Will an apology ever come or be felt anywhere?

I think we will be speaking relevant to Japanese and Korean ages.

My X (Japanese) hated Korean people, 37 years old.

My current partner (Korean) hates Japanese, 36 years old.

Now I find myself torn between three as my two year old is half Japanese so of course I support him.

Myself, I'm an Aussie and am torn between confusion knowing that Japan was out enemy, whislt Korea was our wartime friend.

It is causing some problems between my current partner and I, so how would you handle this?

I mean, my current relationship is all good, but this Japan vs Korea thing is a constant reminder and I hate it.

I don't have anything against either cultures, but what should I do?
Support myself and son, or just try to accept each other's opinions?

Cheers - Oz

I was unaware of this conflict? My Korean friend loves Japan
If your current partner (not really sure what you mean by partner) is giving you trouble because she/he is racist towards Japan, well I personally think that's ridiculous. As for you being confused because Japan was your enemy and Korea was your wartime friend, well that war is over right? So why would you let it still cause conflict? I think that's sort of stupid

From the sky, To the ground
Rain is falling all around
Thunder rain and wind
A song of storms begins

Play a song, A melody
Then everybody will see
The hero of time
Has come

I think you should stay clear of both, support your son and also regulate the way you accept and give opinions...this issue tend to get touchy.

These two countries cant just shake and make up, it goes beyond diplomatic politics and culture. They act as if they're on separate continents *shakes head*

You mean like, people don't like it when you tell them they are hating someone without reason? Which is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe I am interpreting the situation incorrectly, but this is not "conflict" this is racism? Right? But again, I never knew there was a "conflict" between Korea and Japan. All the Japanese and Korean folk I've met don't have a problem with each other at all

With Korea testing its ballistic missiles over Japan airspace and Japan complaining to the international committee about it, the Korea ignoring the warnings.

If that isnt a conflict, it sure isnt close to racism either?

Might want to specify which Korea you are talking about. It is North Korea testing their missiles over Japan.

Yes, Japan did do a few bad things back in the day. Quite a few of them not just to Korea either. Like every country, Japan does have a checkered past and did some things they are not proud of now. But just because they apologize doesn't mean that those who either lived through those things or are related to those that went through it are going to forgive. I agree that it would be nice to have people stop hating each other, but sadly, considering the reasons, it is hard to forgive and forget.
