Arrow Translating a Japanese book - 09-24-2009, 12:45 AM

I'd like to translate a Japanese book into my language and sell.
Where should I start from ? Please show me the steps 1.2.3.4.5....etc

By tthis I mean permission for translation, copyright issues, what to do to ask who when where why and how.

Please be kind to help me...

You have a couple options.

1) approach the Japanese publisher and ask for permission to translate and publish the book.

Since you are not a publishing company, the changes of them saying yes are almost zero, as how are you going to make them money with it if you are not a publishing house.

2) translate the book on your own, and the shop it to English language publishing companies. If they like it, they can try and get the rights from the Japanese publisher. That's a little riskier, but really the only way.

Thank you man,
I have a book that cost ~1Man yens, after I translate it I am afraid the publishing houses refuse to own the book copyright and so what should I do with the translated version. It becomes trash definitely. I am worried about the advertisment too as it is a lie to people as far as I can see.

If the license owner will not sell the license to a publishing company willing to publish it or publish it themselves, then yes, it is just a labor of love for you.
