Call animal control? Although they will probably just get it and then put it to sleep.

How bad is it hurt and in what way?

Sad to say that if skunks are considered a pest (like grey squirrels are in the UK) where you are it will be humanly dispatched if you hand it over. However if it's crippled in any way, or bleeding heavily, that's probably it's best option anyway.

Finish it off with a ball peen hammer and bury it. Most humane way to handle it.

Police handle animal control here, they pick up [illegal] snakes and alligators and handle things if a persons pet gets run over or they find someone from animal control to get it. It is worth a try.

Kill it, and bury it a long ways from your house

I love animals, but come on?! A polcat shouldn't even be considered an animal.
