Howdy! I'm Ron, and I'm a chemistry teacher based in the San Francisco bay area. I'm a language enthusiast and have always been interested in learning Japanese. So, this summer, I've been taking my very first Japanese class and I really like the language. I know I have a very long way to go, but I'd like to be able to have an useful command of the language one day.
Oh, I'm also deaf - and have been learning Japanese Sign Language. Since I'm American, I'm also a native user of American Sign Language. Japanese Sign Language is quite different from ASL, so it's been a challenge (especially the completely different fingerspelling and number systems)! I dream of someday going to Japan and interacting with the deaf people there, and being able to learn both of their languages (written Japanese and JSL). It's nice to be here. I've lurked these forums for some time, and I finally decided to join tonight. I hope I can make a meaningful contribution to these forums in some way!

Coming to you from: US First Breath: 10/27/19XX Heritage: Japanese; born in the US Intentions and whatnot: Meet new and interesting people with the same tastes in music, fashion, art, and entertainment...also to help brush up on my Japanese. Interests: Art, languages, traveling, studying reptiles, playing Magic, watching Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Buffy, and currently Dr.Who. So far, I've been to Japan, Korea, Mexico, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Lichtenstein...oddly enough I haven't been to Canada despite it being only a few hours up north from where I'm currently residing.

My mom is Japanese and as a result I have spent about 3 yrs in Japan spread out over 22 yrs (mainly elementary school age). Most recently studied abroad in Tokyo for a year. Reasons for joining: It would be nice to talk to other people who are interested in Japan (not many of them where I live) Hobbies: -Sports, esp American football -Listening to music -Hanging out with friends, the typical college activities I suppose
