Working in Japan - 01-27-2010, 06:55 PM

Interesting in working in Japan after graduation.
What kind of jobs are offered to visa workers with a bachelor degree, pay range, is the market competitive for visa students planning to work in the business sector?
If anyone has or had similar experiences, please shed some light.

What is a "visa worker"?

Think he means "work visa holders" and the answers vary with the type of visa you have. My visa pretty much allows me to do anything a Japanese firm thinks I am qualified for, but other visas restrict you to one industry or type of job.

Question: What type of visa do you have Tsuwabuki?

I'm heading to Japan soon and will stay in the Tokyo Region for three months. So I'm actively looking for a internship/job.

I'm also a graduate and have a B.A. degree at an accredited University in California.

So you are going as a tourist and are looking for a job?

What are your future intentions?

You can join the ranks of the tens of thousands of Japanese university students who are graduating next month, and who are desperately searching for work (only 45% of current graduates have job offers). Hopefully you have more to offer a company than a university educated, native-Japanese, otherwise your pickings will be slim-to-none.

The typical work visa is a "Specialist in Humanities/International Services" or SHIS visa, and is good for 1 to 3 years, depending on how long your employer is willing to sponsor you. To qualify for such a visa, you will need to have a job which pays at least 3 million yen per year, at a company which is willing to sponsor you.

It takes several weeks to process a work visa, if you come to Japan with a 90 day visa, and do not get a job offer immediately, you may have to leave the country and return before your work visa is processed. English teaching used to be the easiest way to get a work visa, but with the current economy, most of the chain schools are suffering from low enrollments, and there aren't many positions available.
