Japanese military; JGSDF? - 02-05-2010, 09:13 PM

Hello everybody!
Let me introduce myself.

I am a 30y dude from Stockholm, Sweden which have been more and more interested in Japan and all its glory the latest years.

I have just finished my very first "Japanese for beginners" and am Sankyu in Kendo.

And I also play Airsoft which is a ton of fun.
And thus, my idea of portraiting a JGSDF-soldier in Airsoft.

But there in lies a problem.

In Kendo, so many forums exist in English, just as Airsoft.
But for the japanese military, JGSDF to be exact, I have found very little DIRECT information about its gear, weapons, all kind of info I want in ENGLISH.
I have several links to sites in japanese but due to my severe lack of being able to understand them yet, they are mostly to no help right now.

The sites I have found that show some pictures or info are sparse and the JSDF are almost seen as something mythical with guesses, rumours and mainly "aaw, they're so cool" without lending any help.

You all, who are clearly have much more insight, might know some good forum like this or site that would be more helpful for me?

I would like as much info as possible.
What the rules about their clothing is, what their tactics are, what commands they use and so on.

Looking forward to some good help, and good times regarding all my other nihon fanatic aspects!

Best Regards; Roger Friberg, Sweden.

Are official site and Wiki not enough for you?
They have English pages.

At least you can get pictures of their equipments on their official.
For example, you can print out the picture of their uniform and so on.
防衛省・陸上自衛隊|装備|需品器材
防衛省・陸上自衛隊|装備|火器・弾薬
I could find some forums easily. But all in Japanese.

Weapons and equipment are mostly American in origin, though a generation or two earlier than current American military issue. Rifles are M-16, or M16-A1, pistols are in most cases the old Colt .45 auto, or the Smith and Wesson .38 revolver.
