The exchange rate!

Please read my diary that I wrote when travelling and working in Japan for three months. It is also packed full of information. I hope that it can inspire you to have an adventure too.
Please contact me if I can help you with advice or information.

Sigh another pointless thread that does not promote constructive conversation and has the potential to turn into a negative thread. Why not try posting something more positive.

Yeah, you're right. What we need is another Obama thread.

Every country has it's pros and cons. I don't know about certain people here, but I don't see this so-called "negativity" in OP's question which doesn't even concentrate on Japan itself, and I don't understand why only completely positive threads should be exclusive to our forum.

It could be argued 'negative' threads are useful so people get a realistic idea of what to expect, plus it can be quite informative.
Except the problem is they usually just turn into biased bitching-fests. There is always some moron who thinks Japan did him or her wrong, or owes them something, and threads that lead in this kind of direction are magnets for those people.

Natto.

No, seriously. The only thing that I have issues with is the few Japanese people I run into every so often where they have a disconnect with my ability to speak Japanese and refuse to speak to me in anything but broken English. When I am running to catch a train or plane, or have something to get done, I'm not willing to give an English lesson. If my Japanese is better than your English, let's just be about it.

This was much more of an issue in Korea, though. Where I was constantly engaged in conversations solely for English lessons. It made me very protective of my time, and less tolerant of individuals unwilling to engage me in their own language.

theres nothing wrong with making a 'negative' thread. Theres a lot out there, for example the thread on what you hate the most about anime. Maybe some people out there wanna know stuff about japan thats bad. ¬_¬.
