Cherry Blossom Festivals - Sakura Matsuri - 04-09-2010, 02:52 AM

Hi everyone I plan on going to the Cherry Blossom / Sakura Matsuri Festival here in New York City at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Every year they have an entire weekend devoted to Japanese-style celebration with artists, music, dancers, crafts and soooo much yummy food I want to learn Para Para!!

Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Sakura Matsuri 2010

Will you guys be attending any of your local Cherry Blossom Festivals? If so which, when & where?

If you're in the NYC area, I organize & run a NYC Japanese Dinner & Culture group & will be taking my group there that weekend. Check out New York City Japanese Dinner & Culture Group (New York, NY) - Meetup.com & join if you're here & want to attend

Para para? I haven't seen anyone doing that in Japan since about 1999- seems like it still survives outside Japan though...

I attended the Ueno Park cherry blossom festival last weekend on the other side of Tokyo. Had a great time, it is amazing how the park transforms when the blossoms are in full bloom. I just wish they lasted a little longer than a few weeks!

Now i'm waiting for Sanja Matsuri in Asakusa!

Hello from Vancouver We have the Cherry Blossom Festival too. Surprisingly the Sakura bloomed in Feb and most of them have fallen off now. I planned to have an outdoor lecture about Sakura trees with my scout group in around April but too bad this plan may have to be cancelled........... And I don't have time to take some nice Sakura photos this year

The attachment is a photo that I took in Spring 2005, in Vancouver of course.

I just attended one of the events going on for the Philadelphia Cherry Blossom Festival, which has been going on all month at various places. The event I attended was the Tamagawa University Taiko Drum and Dance. It was incredible and if they are ever at the one in Brooklyn I highly recommend seeing them.

Michelle, I do absolutely plan on seeing the Taiko drumming! I've wanted to visit Philadelphia forever - maybe I'll head over there next April
