Please Help Me Help My Bamboo Shute! - 03-11-2010, 12:58 AM

I got a little bamboo shute last november for my birthday at the mall, and have been watching over him since then, but it worries me. He hasnt grown an inch over this entire time!!
He is in a small japanese tea cup, has about an inch of pebbles to keep him upright, and I only give him bottled water because the water were I live is super hard.
He lives on my desk, and will get about five minutes in the morning of sunshine because it leaks through my curtains. I'm scared to let him have real sun, because our sun is supppper brutal out here. Like our neighboors got this big ceramic donkey, and his paint faded within two months. (as does a photograph if left in your window)
I dont know what to do! Last time i left him in my window, I sorta forgot about him to a little under a week, and his leaves got scorched. He's fine now, his leaves have all grown back. But he's not getting any taller! Is he okay?
Should I buy him some plant food?

Hahaha sorry for the frantic rant, it's just been bothering me for a long time.
Btw his name is Sasuke-san <33
XDDD
If you have any advice for me, I'd love to hear it.
Thank you :3

It wouldn't get taller because the top side of the bamboo is cut-offed.

If all the plant is getting is bottle water, it hasn't got a chance. It's starving. There are no nutrients in most bottled water. Just water. You wouldn't survive on that either.

Switch to the tap water. If its hard water its because it has minerals. And plants need some.

Plant food could be good, but you have be careful not to give too much or the wrong kind. Try researching bamboo cultivation online.

Ohhhh! That would make sence....Okay, I'll switch his water right now.

There is world market that sells the food with the bamboo. Maybe I'll buy him some :3

The cause that does not grow up.....
A container is small.
Temperature is low.
Some ways of the care seem to change by a kind of the bamboo.
The humidity matches temperature and lengthens all too well when it is the environment where a root can extend to freely.
As for the bamboo, it is difficult to treat it like a bonsai because vitality is strong.

Ah well he used to live in a shotglass, and i thought that may be why he's not growing, so i switched him to a bigger glass.
You mean because it's cold? Ah...yeah it is pretty chilly still XD Maybe in the summer he'll grow :3

Naming plants isn't that unusual, surely? I've named some of my pot plants. I know plenty of others with named plants. Admittedly, much more predictable names like "Fred Ferny" and "Alan Shearer the Aloe Vera" but still...

I had just never heard of anyone naming their plants. I guess it's not that weird or anything, we name cars down here lol
