hide is his stage name all in lower case, his real name is Hideto Matsumoto, a musician and a member of X-Japan

What happened?

He hung himself 12 years ago.

Supposedly. There is a competing rumor he was doing a stretching exercise guitarists sometimes do to help deal with the constant pressure of the guitar strap, and something went wrong.

If that rumor involves interpreting a noose around the neck as exercise, it would be hard to convince me.
Eitherway, it's unfortunate. Rest in Peace.
