we are conditioned too.

Below your screen name in your post is the phrase "Somebody, save me." I'm thinking maybe that's what they (your parents) are trying to do...showing respect is a thoughtful act, and from thoughtfulness comes the "reward" of the respect of others...just sharing a thought.
