My generation...? - 04-22-2007, 03:21 AM

Hey everybody,

I sometimes think about, or ask myself, what makes my/our generation unique? What are trends, ways of thinking and living that have developed in this generation?
When in future time your children or grandchildren ask you to describe your generation and what was special about that, how would you answer?

It's difficult for me to name some aspects... What about the worldwide network young people can use for information exchange or making friends? And also the willingness to make use of it and to concern oneself with matters bigger and more far away than just the own person?

But maybe these things stand out clearly only in retrospect and are now just "normal", so that we don't recognize it.

Whats your opinion?

Unhappy is he to whom the memories of childhood bring only fear and sadness. Wretched is he who looks back upon lone hours in vast and dismal chambers with brown hangings and maddening rows of antique books, or upon awed watches in twilight groves of grotesque, gigantic, and vine-encumbered trees that silently wave twisted branches far aloft. Such a lot the gods gave to me - to me, the dazed, the disappointed, the barren, the broken.

ya know what's weird to me, how alot of people either want to be individual, and then want freinds and so they make a whole nother group, and thos that want to be cool and are "normal" lol...I mean it started after the sixties, really the spirit and we were born with it, so we are MORE for it than against. But alot of us are like "I'm an individual", yet you can get another human and so in reality your not to different than the next person, so what about you makes you indivual. I guess what I'm trying to say is that why, all of a sudden, are we throwing each other away and embracing ourselves, as if one human is greater than two...

i mostly would agree but i think we look into ourselves and the question of .. who am I why am i here is less painful when smothered with friends and those who are more like yourself. Those with the same problems as us make us feel more normal. I think that we see ourselves as an insignificant part of a bigger picture that without us could very well function just fine. We as human beings dont understand our purpose.... our minds just rationalize our existance into a to do list for our life. Like before i die i want to do this.... but we dont see anything but the "right now" we usually dont look into our deep feelings and hurt and pain. So our generation is numb. Life goes on but all we can do is watch it go by and feel immediate emotion. I dont think significance in the form of individuality is nessecarily what this era is known for. Externally it may look that way but IMO we are no longer paying attention to what drives us.
