Talking help me please - 01-29-2012, 06:24 AM

I was watching a japanese horror movie today

the woman answers the phone she says

woman: moshi moshi = hello
guy: yuka dou (yuka dough) which is suppsosed to translate to yuka, how's it going

I am confused by this, because isn't dou supposed to translate to how?

So, why does that translate to, yuka, how's it going?

Yuka dou? is an informal and short form of Yuka dou desuka?

If it's a horror movie, you can't expect them to partake in a regular phone conversation.

If you'd like to follow up on this, perhaps you should join japanologic.com since the regular members of this forum have long since left.
