Are gay and lesbian people accepted in Japan?

I haven't noticed any homophobia in Japan. Some very important Japanese people were gay. Yukio Mishima for instance.

It's accepted to a degree I suppose but there is still a stigma attached to it! I'm sure a lot of guys are guy but would never admit it because their families would never accept it.
A mate of mine is guy & he thinks about 80% of Japanese guys are secretly gay
But of course if you are gay, visiting Japan people don't have the open hatred as in some places. Or that's what I've seen anyway.

There was many topics like this here before,and my answer remains the same: There's many discrimination against everything everywhere,some places more,some places less,but the fact is that there's discrimination against everything everywhere!

I doubt you would find as much opposition to it as you would in some countries, but as for accepted, there are no places in the world where it is perfectly accepted. You'll always have trouble, at least for a long time.

depends on whether or not you are 'flaunting' it in public to be honest... it is considered a little rude over here to show any kind of emotions in public so I doubt anyone would have a problem with gay people unless it was pushed in their faces

Although in turkey, you'd get attacked if you showed gayness in public sadly.

Actually yes gays and lesbians are accepted very well.Their are SOME people that would look disgusted but other than that your in the safe zone.

As others said, Japan tends to be much more accepting of gays/lesbians. Though there's always some that still don't approve >.>
