its good to hear of someone studying the japanese history, rather than just concentrating on all the modern aspects of japan, i'm studying illustration and have written my last 4 or so essays on japanese art, maybe you can help me, ita a bit of a killer XD

samurai litrature, is that things like the tale of Genji (i want to read that sometime )

how old are you btw? do you professionally teach or do you just tutor in spare time?

Japanese Art, huh? I'd love to help if I can ^_^ Which art are you studying? Visual (Like sumi-e)? Traditional? Modern?

The Samurai Literature course I'm teaching is more about feudal history than the Heian Period (when Tale of Genji takes place). And since it's only one semester (ending this month) long, it actually focuses on the reading of only two books, Taiko and Musashi, both written by Eiji Yoshikawa. Granted they're pretty significant tomes; 900+ pages each. The class revolves around both discussion and lecture regarding the history and culture of the time the students are reading about.

I'm 17, but I'm turning 18 in February ^_^. I'm also homeschooled, which is why I've been able to teach, present panels, study Japanese History, and so on without getting behind in schoolwork (since it IS schoolwork, for me).

Although I don't "professionally" teach, it is a big part of my life and I really enjoy it. My hope for the future is to become a Japanese Studies professor, and, if all goes well, a part-time Japanese historical fiction novelist.

ooh, thats very cool, youre lucky you can choose what you learn :P

as i said; im studying Illustration at University , my essay is to be on Western primative art (Circa 1880 - 1914), but i manages to err, *bully* my lectureer into letting me talk (write) about Japanese art of that period, and how western art infuenced it, how it influenced western art (eg suzaine, Bonnard, Klimt, Henri de Toulouse, Van Gogh, Monet and Manet etc...)

heh ^^;;
,any info on japanese art of that period would be great, i have quite a bit on Hokusai, (even though he died in 1849 his work still circulated, and only really bacame famous in the early 1900's); so yea, any others would be great^^

i know way too much on not enough, thats my problem lol

Hi there,
My names John, and I'm an engineer currently living in Norway and have been a big fan of Japanese culture/pastimes for a long long time (although it was only recently that I realised I liked soo much that had Japanese origins -I liked anime before I realised what it was, and folded origami without realising the symbolism since I was really young)
I'm a big collector of watches, especially the unusual designs released in Japan such as the Citizen Independent 1481010 range, and the Tokima Digirobo robot watches. I also collect a lot of figurines (Kubricks, Bearbricks, Murakami Superflat Museum, Gachapon etc)
In my spare time, I watch a lot of anime, reading, research on my watch collection, fold origami, listen to music, go to the pub, play touch rugby, and plan for things to do on my next trip to Tokyo!
So hello to all on the forum!!!
