Favorite form of Japanese gambling - 11-02-2007, 04:00 AM

Gambling is different in Japan compared to the Western world. What is your favorite form of gambling in Japan?

Cho-han of course. But it's not on the list.

I do enjoy pachinko though :D. I have a couple vintage machines in my basement.

I voted for pachinko. I like the fact that you can play pachinko almost in every neighborhood without traveling for it. The machines keep evolving, too, using the latest technology. I actually seldom win in pachinko but it's fun just watching the screen for all the 'reach patterns'.

I was a pachinko addict for about a year and had to go cold turkey. I don't really have any good pachinko memories, though I did enjoy playing, but I do have a lot of keiba memories.

My other gaijin friend and I would go to Sonoma Keibajyo once a month or so. It wasn't JRA, so there was something fishy going on, but it wasn't long before we found people that would give us "hints" to the horses we should bet on.

A couple times (because we were foreigners) some lucky-streakers would offer to take me and my buddy out to dinner after the races. "Tell us which horse will win the next race, and you have a deal." They would, we would cash in, and get taken to a nice Kobe-beef yakuniku spot.

Is that bad?

i probably would go for Horse racing or Kyotei..

@MMM, the hint is always there.. not evident of course , especially to small timers , but its gambling there is bound to something fishy in it one way or the other..

but i don't like gambling, being race in that kind of world...

tough one...I said pachinko cos it's easy to zone out on and forget your troubles, it's the zen meditation of gambling. Plus pachinkoya onisan are often hotties lol. But I haven't been for two months since I'm broke and unlucky, so I only use money I know I can loose.

However I do love keiba! I wish I had some friends to go with more!

If I were a gambler and traveled to Japan I would have to say Pachinko. My parents had a pachinko machine when I was a kid and I would sit for hours playing. Then again id probably lose at that like I do anytime I gamble. Never been much for it. The rare times I go to Vegas, I spend my money on liquor and food. Occasionally I'll gamble a little just to get the free drinks.

I don't gamble. But those Pachinko things look neat.

Q: Who cares what other people think?!?!
A: Japanese people do.
