Neputa summer festival in Goshogawara
A traditional summer festival featuring huge lantern floats called Neputa is underway in Goshogawara in Aomori prefecture. The festival started with fireworks on Monday night. 3 Neputa floats, each 22 meters high, and 16 smaller floats were then paraded through the city. One of the Neputa floats made this year is named "indomitable" and depicts a military commander from the period of Warring States in Japan battling the god of thunder. The festival will continue until Friday, and is expected to draw about 1.5 million visitors. 2008/08/05 14:26 NHK WORLD English
